Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s “natural” or un-paid (“organic”) search results. In general, by optimising the visibility of the website results the search results page (SERP), the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search and a lot more.
What I do is truly taking into account how search engines work, what people search for, when I would like to reach my target audience like the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by this audience. Optimizing a website may involve a lot of things like editing the content, optimising the HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
But maybe even more important is actual PR / gaining backlinks by publishing helpful (relevant) content for your target audience. One needs to be creative in order to figure out what the best content is and how and where this should be published. In my opinion this is the part where traditional PR agencies fail in a lot (but not all) the cases. The great thing about having things like feedback tools, analytics etc. is that a lot of the stuff is readily available; we just need to understand these data points and act on them.
